Sep 2nd 2008 10:29 am Congratulations Bristol Palin!

It makes me sick that the media is in attack mode over Sarah Palin’s daughter being pregnant. I don’t care how unqualified you think Sarah Palin is to be Vice President, families are off limits. And the only appropriate thing to tell a woman when you find out she is pregnant is “congratulations”.

(Please note comment #3 below, where I made some clarifications)

    well actually ….

if they make this kid marry the sperm donor i can just about guaranteed a divorce in 2 years.

and these right wing evangelicals with their abstinence only policies SHOULD be targeted for their hypocritical POLITICS.
If they want THEIR families to be off limits to comment….then the rest of America’s families should be off limits to their politicking. which means proper sex education and condom distribution - and stop trying to regulate who gets married to whom and so forth.

they CANNOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.

I agree that “congratulations!” is all that should be in order, but @jgodsey has a point. If someone is going to use their politics to impose a certain morality on others, but not themselves or their families, then the hypocrisy should be called upon and the action dropped.

I feel sorry for the families of politicians. Glad I have too many foibles to ever act upon my urge to run for office!

    Some clarifications:

No one hates the politics these guys preach more than I do. Of course I notice the hypocrisy and the irony, and some part of me almost takes glee at it… and that is what scares me.

Have we really reached a point where we are willing to not argue for the justness of our ideas or the rightness of our cause, but instead we are reduced to calling shenanigans on a 17 year old kid? Aren’t we better than this? Or are we really just like they are, with different ideas but the same principles?

If we who oppose the neo-cons and their ideas stand for anything, it should be the protection of the needy and the defenseless. That includes pregnant children.

@Hugh, definitely agree with protecting the needy and defenseless. Hope folks leave the teen alone, and concentrate on the politics of the running mate instead!

I agree whole heartedly with @Hugh. If people want to debate policy, debate policy. When you bring family into it, you are making it personal. Both campaigns are promising change. The American people, and more importantly the media, need to let them “change”. TAKE THE HIGH ROAD!! Policy is not and should not be personal.
